European IPR Helpdesk

The Enterprise Europe Network at Cork Chamber chats to Gerard O’Regan, Senior Technology Transfer Executive at Enterprise Ireland.
- Gerard is Ambassador for Ireland at the European Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Helpdesk.
What is the European IPR Helpdesk in a nutshell?  The European IPR Helpdesk offers free-of-charge, first-line support on Intellectual Property (IP) matters to beneficiaries of EU-funded research projects and to SMEs. It is managed by the European Commission’s Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME), with policy guidance provided by the European Commission’s Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General.
Why do SMEs need to increase their knowledge of IPR? In a survey undertaken in the context of a study on trade secrets, European companies who participated clearly indicated trade-fairs as one of the most important sources of information spillovers across businesses. IP is an important concept throughout the product lifecycle and is key when innovating.  Essentially, it helps to protect SME owners.
How can Irish SMEs avail of the European IPR Helpdesk’s services?
